April 2008
- St Gabriel's Church,
Cwmbran
- Orchestra: 'Welsh
Sinfonia'
This concert featured some of the
greatest French composers, and the choir enjoyed singing some
beautiful works including Charles Gounod's Messe Solennelle de Saint
Cécile, Gabrielle
Fauré's Cantique de Jean
Racine, and Georges
Bizet's Te
Deum. As well as these
the choir gave stunning performances of Calme des Nuits
and Les Fleurs et les
Arbres - both written by
Camille Saint-Saëns - and Gabrielle Fauré's haunting
Pavane.
Thursday 22nd
May 2008
- St Fagan's National History
Museum
The choir was delighted to be able to
contribute to the ongoing celebrations for Oakdale's centenary
year. The Oakdale Institute, once the hub of the village community
in Oakdale, has been rebuilt in its original form in the
surroundings of the St Fagan's National Museum of Welsh Life. The
choir performed a wide variety of music from the Tudor period,
right through to 20th century works. Again, the choir's soloists
were on form and wowed the capacity
audience.

Concert, St Gabriel's Church, Cwmbran
- Orchestra: Welsh
Sinfonia
This
year's Christmas concert took place on 6th December 2008. Our
program contained such diverse music as
Komm, Jesu, Komm! (BWV229) written by JS
Bach, and
Magnificat composed by John
Rutter and first performed in Carnegie Hall, New York, in 1990.
Once again we were privileged to be accompanied by the Welsh
Sinfonia and our own organist, Martyn Ridge.
Two of our choir soloists gave breathtaking performances - Tim Ford
(Tenor) in works by, amongst others, Mendelssohn; and Anne
Price-Jones (Soprano) in Rutter's uplifting
Magnificat. Once again,
the Choir thanks them for their efforts and congratulates them on
their performances.
